The meeting between Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, and Tesla CEO Musk, although the market has attracted a lot of attention, what they discussed, it is not yet known. Zeng Yuqun's speech at the World Power Battery Conference is worth paying attention to. He said that in 2030, the market demand for power batteries will reach 4.8Twh, and the energy storage market will exceed 1Twh. "Condensed matter batteries can be mass-produced quickly within this year, and are currently co-developing civil electric manned aircraft projects, and will also launch automotive-grade application versions." It is understood that the energy density of the condensed matter battery in the CATL era is as high as 500Wh/kg.
It is understood that BYD is about to launch a blade battery with an energy density of up to 180Wh/kg. If it is only self-produced and self-sold, the market will not be particularly sensitive to the replacement of BYD's power battery. The key is that it has recently been reported that the most entry-level Tesla Model Y rear-drive version has been put into production at the Berlin factory in Germany, and its structural battery comes from BYD.
CALB has performed well, ranking higher than South Korea's SK On and Samsung SDI for two consecutive months in the global power battery installation ranking. Recently, the new smart genie #3 was officially launched, and the whole model was first equipped with a 66-degree medium nickel high-voltage ternary lithium battery of CALB.
On June 8, EVE officially announced that it would invest 9.97 billion yuan to build a large cylindrical battery project for passenger cars in Hungary; on the same day, EVE Chairman Liu Jincheng subscribed for Enjie shares with his own funds of 440 million yuan. On May 29, EVE signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Rongbai Technology and reached a strategic partnership.
In early June, Moroccan investment agency AMDIE revealed that the Moroccan government and Gotion are discussing the establishment of an electric vehicle battery factory in the country, with a new plant capacity of 100GWh and a final investment of up to US$6.3 billion (about 44.58 billion yuan). In early May, Hefei Guoxuan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gotion, received a procurement designation letter from Volkswagen, and will become a designated supplier of Volkswagen's lithium iron phosphate "Unified Cell" power lithium battery products in overseas markets.
SUNWODA
On June 7th, SUNWODA released its "Investor Relations Activity Record" which showed that in 2020, the company's electric vehicle battery segment had achieved a revenue of RMB 12.687 billion, a year-over-year growth of 332.56%. SUNWODA's power battery segment serves primarily top automobile manufacturers at home and abroad, as well as emerging EV manufacturers. Domestic clients include Geely, Dongfeng, Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, and Li Auto, while overseas clients include Renault and Nissan. In addition, SUNWODA has secured partnerships with established automakers such as Volvo, Volkswagen, GAC, and SAIC. SUNWODA stated that it will continue to actively explore domestic and international markets, seek cooperation with more high-quality clients, and achieve stable growth in performance.
It is reported that LG Energy Solution has signed a joint venture agreement with Hyundai Motor to build a battery factory in the state of Georgia, USA. The new factory, with a planned annual capacity of 30GWh, is expected to start construction as early as this year, and will be able to meet the battery demand for 300,000 electric vehicles. The batteries produced by the new factory will mainly be supplied to Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, and Genesis Motors produced in the United States.
According to a report from Xinhua News Agency, after years of development and accumulation, Zhonglidian New Energy (ZLDE) has successively won several key power battery projects designated by SAIC-GM-Wuling (heavy trucks, light trucks, and RVs), with a total scale of 55.68 GWh, and has also been designated by SAIC-GM (PHEV) for a project with a total scale of more than 9 GWh. In combination with the ongoing supply of power batteries to SAIC-GM (HEV) with a designated scale of 1.12 GWh, ZLDE's cooperation with SAIC Group is expected to achieve a total life cycle production of over 1.5 million vehicles and a total power battery scale of 65.8 GWh, with mass production of vehicles scheduled to begin in 2024. The cooperation between the two companies is characterized by a long cooperation period, diverse application scenarios, and abundant product types.
On June 7th, Farasis Energy Technology held a briefing on its performance for the first quarter of 2022 and the full year 2023. "At present, we have ample orders on hand, enough to cover our existing production capacity, and we expect a significant increase in shipping volume in 2023," Farasis Energy Technology said.
On May 9th, REPT CB500 lithium iron phosphate long cell was successfully produced and its specifications met customer shipping standards. The first batch has been delivered and will be supplied to a well-known domestic vehicle manufacturer for road testing. This provides assurance for REPT's future increase in power battery shipment volume.
