Understanding the process of making batteries with foreign customers

On 9 June 2023, a Swedish customer came to visit UFINE New Energy Company. Under the explanation of the engineer, the customer had a general understanding of the production process of lithium batteries and expressed high recognition of our production management and quality control, and was full of expectations for future cooperation.

   On 9 June 2023, UFINE lithium battery production company welcomed a customer from Sweden for a visit. In UFINE 's factory, we introduced to the customer in detail the content and control points of each production process, quality control as well as safety testing and electrical performance laboratory. After the engineer's explanation, the customer had a general understanding of the lithium battery production process and expressed high recognition of our production management and quality control, and was looking forward to future cooperation.



  Before entering the workshop for a tour, dust-proof clothing was required. Seeing such strict hygiene standards, the customer expressed his affirmation of the company's production management.
  In the production workshop of UFINE , we first led our customers to visit the storage and use of raw materials. We strictly control the quality of raw materials, and only those that meet the standards can enter the production process. At the same time, we have set up a special storage area to sort and store the raw materials, and take appropriate temperature and humidity control measures to ensure the stability and reliability of the raw materials. We then introduce our customers to the various processes in the production line in detail.


Electronic material mixing and positive and negative electrode manufacturing

  Firstly, the dosing and mixing of the positive and negative electrodes, the proportions of the various materials and the mixing time are precisely controlled. There are several different materials for the positive electrode: lithium manganate, lithium iron phosphate, lithium cobaltate and ternary. Each of these materials has different properties. The main material for the negative electrode is graphite, which has good electrical conductivity.


  The next step is the slurry coating process, where the slurry is evenly applied to the aluminium or copper with high precision equipment, the positive material to the aluminium and the negative material to the copper. The coated material is then placed in a high temperature baking chamber for baking.




  The coating is put inside the roller cloth machine for roll alignment to make the electrode material more uniform, while the staff will measure the thickness of the coating with a micrometer to ensure that the energy output of the battery can be balanced and stable. The positive and negative electrode sheets are then divided into the right size to facilitate the production of the battery. Finally, lugs are welded onto each of the split positive and negative electrodes.

 The positive electrode, the negative electrode and the diaphragm are wound together. The diaphragm is a specially moulded polymer film with a microporous structure that allows lithium ions to pass freely but not electrons.



Perform a compaction to test for short circuits

  The outer layer of the battery is wrapped with a layer of aluminium plastic film. Different battery sizes have different aluminium plastic film sizes and require different aluminium plastic film presses.
 


   The finished aluminium film is used to wrap the inner cell, seal the edges once and then cover the outside of the battery with a thin transparent film to prevent scratches on the outside of the battery during the production process.

  Before filling the battery with liquid, it needs to be put into a baking chamber to dry out the water and then filled with electrolyte. The electrolyte allows the lithium ions to flow sufficiently.


Battery activation and charging

  Amongst the questions asked by the good customers about the formation process, "What is the main function of the formation process?"The formation process charges the cells to activate them, with a charge of approximately 60%-70%; after the formation process is complete, the second seal is applied to shape the cells and expel the air.



  "The chemistry of a lithium-ion battery is the first low-current charge of the manufactured lithium-ion battery, which is designed to form a passivation layer, a solid electrolyte interface film (SEI film), on the surface of the negative electrode."

The cells are fully charged and discharged to test the size of the actual battery capacity; the battery is tested for dropout and then the battery is aged in a high temperature environment to detect any abnormalities in the capacity of the cells. Finally a full battery inspection is carried out, including whether there is a short circuit and whether the appearance of the cells is good.

  The last thing is to assemble the protection plate, the wire and the plug to the core and to wrap the plate with a special adhesive to prevent it from having damage.



Battery testing

  In addition to the production process, we also introduce our customers to our battery safety testing and electrical performance laboratory. With our advanced laboratory equipment and technology, we are able to conduct comprehensive testing and evaluation of the safety performance of the batteries.





  During the visit, our customers were very concerned about quality control and made some valuable suggestions. They suggested that we further strengthen the management and monitoring of raw material suppliers to ensure the stability and reliability of raw materials. They also emphasised the need for strict quality control at every stage of the production process to ensure consistency and reliability of our products. We attach great importance to our customers' suggestions and will adopt them seriously and make improvements. Through today's visit and exchange, we have established a good cooperation relationship with our customers, who highly appreciate and approve of UFINE 's production management and quality control.
